Pink Summits has launched the first phase of its new project “Queer Heroes Outdoors.” This initiative is supported by IGLYO and funded by the European Union. Its mission is to increase the visibility of queer people in outdoor sports through authentic storytelling and to challenge persistent stereotypes about LGBTIQ+ communities.
The project features interviews with inspiring queer outdoor enthusiasts and athletes—people who cycle across continents, compete on Olympic stages, sail oceans, climb the world’s highest peaks, paraglide off summits, ski bold lines, go trekking for months, form their own queer outdoor groups, or even create queer-focused climbing festivals. Their stories highlight resilience, passion, and the strength of queer communities. Discover them at queerheroes.org.
Pink Summits will continue collecting and publishing new stories on the dedicated website, expanding to additional languages, and sharing content on social media under the hashtag #queerheroesoutdoors. In the long term, the project aims to build a digital archive of queer outdoor athletes and adventurers, helping them connect, collaborate, and find new opportunities.
The campaign will also host community events featuring some of the Queer Heroes as speakers. Since several participants have limited online presence, the project supports them by amplifying their voices and helping their work reach broader audiences.
Are you a queer person active in any outdoor sport — at any level?
Pink Summits invites you to share your story and join the growing Queer Heroes Outdoors community. Your experience could inspire the next generation of queer adventurers.
